Joan is a multidisciplinary professional with a finance and human resource background who is called to the Ghana Bar and joined the MerGen Law family as an Articling Student as part of the re-qualifying process to be a licensed attorney in Alberta. Joan is experienced in corporate and commercial law, having worked for over a decade with various major international oil companies. Her experience includes business incorporation, dissolution, mergers and acquisitions, project finance, joint ventures, corporate governance, regulatory affairs, contracting, and contract management.
Joan obtained her Master of Laws from Harvard Law School and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ghana Law School. Prior to attending law school, Joan obtained a Master of Philosophy in Finance and her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance Major with First Class Honors) from the University of Ghana Business School, where she was a Bromkamp Foundation Scholar.
Joan is a go-getter who brings a pragmatic approach to finding optimal legal solutions and the best outcomes for her clients. She lives her values of integrity, empathy, and focus on results. She loves tennis, running, country music, poetry, fashion, and the outdoors.
